India AI Impact Summit: AI Should Be Used for the Public: PM Modi

New Delhi: On the second day of the five-day India AI Impact Summit 2026 being held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, PM Modi said on Tuesday that the aim of this summit is to explore how AI can be used for the benefit of everyone. PM Modi wrote on X that intelligence, rationality, and decision-making ability make science and technology useful for the public.

The India AI Impact Summit 2026, which began on Monday, has brought together heads of state and government, ministers, global technology leaders, renowned researchers, multilateral institutions, and industry stakeholders to deliberate on the role of AI in advancing inclusive development, strengthening public systems, and enabling sustainable growth. This is the first time such a large-scale global conference on this issue is being organized.

According to media reports, the summit will conclude on February 20. More than 100 government representatives are participating, including over 20 heads of state, 60 ministers and deputy ministers, as well as more than 500 global AI leaders, including CEOs, founders, academics, researchers, CTOs, and philanthropic organizations. On February 19, PM Modi will deliver the inaugural address, which will set the direction for global cooperation and present India’s vision for inclusive and responsible AI. A major highlight of the summit is three key global impact challenges – AI for All, AI by Her, and YuvAI – which will conclude with the announcement of finalists and a grand finale showcase.

More than 4,650 applications were received for these challenges from over 60 countries, reflecting strong international participation and reinforcing India’s emergence as a trusted global hub for responsible and scalable AI innovation. After a rigorous multi-layered evaluation conducted by experts, policymakers, and industry leaders from various sectors, the top 70 teams across the three categories were selected as finalists. These finalists will engage with policymakers, industry leaders, investors, and academics, and will receive recognition and support to scale their innovations at national and global levels.

The event is also being attended by Estonian President Alar Karis and Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw. It brings together globally renowned AI experts and leading research institutions to deliberate on AI-driven scientific discovery, safety and governance frameworks, equitable access to infrastructure, and research collaboration in the Global South.
